Investiture of the Gods Story: The Shadow of Chaoge (IOG Story Vol. 1-3)
Story introduction:
Set in the late Shang Dynasty, the story follows King Zhou’s downfall fueled by his obsession with Daji, a nine-tailed fox, and her two demon companions, Hu Ximei and Wang Guiren. The trio manipulates the king, leading him to neglect state affairs, impose harsh taxes, and invent cruel punishments like the "Pao Lao" (burning pillar torture) to silence dissent. They frame the virtuous Queen Jiang for treason, resulting in her brutal mutilation and death. With corrupt officials seizing power and the people suffering severely, nobles like Ji Chang of Xizhou rally forces to overthrow the tyrant. As resentment simmers across the land and celestial signs foretell doom, the Shang Dynasty edges closer to inevitable collapse amid tyranny and injustice.
